Setting Up Your Web Site

Once you've decided what to sell, you're ready to start thinking about setting up your web site.

There are a number key of steps involved:
  1. Register a Domain Name
A domain name is the name that identifies your site, for example, the domain name of this web site is merchantkit.com.

  2. Choose a Web Host
A web hosting company stores your web pages on their specially configured computers, this makes your pages available to people browsing the Internet. In order for this to work properly, your domain name needs to be configured to point to your web host.

  3. Choose a Web Site Template
This is the basic layout of your web site/pages. While it is possible to create your own designs from scratch, unless you're a professional designer, you'll find it easier to produce great quality results if you start from a ready-made web site template.

  4. Design your Web Pages
Once you got a domain, got a web hosting account and chosen a template, you're finally ready to create your web pages and place ("upload") them on your web host.

  5. Register Copyright
Registering copyright for your site helps protect you from people who would "steal" your content without permission.
