| Starting An Affiliate Program |
Affiliate programs can be a very effective way to promote your web site.
Basically the way that the work is you pay other sites a commission
(often a percentage of sales) for driving traffic/sales to your site.
The best part about this, is your affiliate marketing costs are entirely
driven by results.
Some payment processors incorporate a feature for running an affiliate
program (for payments that you process via their service).
If your payment processor doesn't provide affiliate features, you can
use a third-party affiliate management service like
Commission Junction † or install an
affiliate script
on your web site.
I believe that you will probably get better results using a service like
Commission Junction ,
because:
- They already have a large basis of affiliates, whereas if you have to do it yourself,
you have to recruit affiliates yourself (and it's hard to recruit a lot).
- Many affiliates are not keen on joining an unknown affiliate program from
an unknown vendor (you!), and instead prefer to join programs in networks such as
Commission Junction
† because they know that tracking works properly and that they will get paid.
