| What To Sell: Web Hosting |
Web hosts store the web pages that make up their customers' web sites on specially configured computers, and usually charge a monthly or yearly fee for this service.
If you don't have your own web hosting infrastructure (and unless you're a rare exception, I'd imagine that you don't), it is possible to resell web hosting services provided by other companies, to your customers, under your name.
Reselling web hosting should not be confused with participating in web hosting affiliate programs (although confusingly some hosting providers use the term "reseller" when they really mean "affiliate", and even occassionally, vice-versa).
- In affiliate programs, you drive visitors (by showing ads on your web site or whatever) to the seller, and earn commissions based on the sales that you
generate.
- When reselling, you buy hosting services from web hosting company, and then in turn sell them on at a profit to your customers. Many web hosting companies have their systems setup so you can do this without making it obvious that the service that you are providing is in fact resold.
You can find a guide to selling web hosting in
How to Sell Web Hosting For a Profit.
As with membership sites, customers
usually pay for web hosting on a monthly or annual basis. This offers you
the opportunity to build up a residual income based on renewals.
To make it as easy as possible for your customers to renew, you'll probably
find it best (particularly if offering a monthly payment option) to use a
recurring billing service
to process payments.
